Common Conditions

Drags Bottom

April 24, 2014, 9:23 AM
Q: Hi Doctor Pup. Little Myla has started dragging her bottom. We always clean her up after she's been out. I've seen this in older doggies but not in pups. What could be causing her to do this? Thanks.
A: This simply means something is itching or irritating that area. The most common cause is overfilled anal glands but we also see this with fleas and tapeworms. There is a home demo video about cleaning your dogs anal glands, and discussions of fleas and tapeworms in the common conditions category. You could mention it to your vet if you are not comfortable with it.
