Licking at feet

Q: Our 8 month old Morkie is chewing and licking her front paws a lot. What do you believe causes this and if something is agitating her what can we do to stop this?
A: I am not sure if there are any visible lesions, redness or swelling. The three most frequent causes would be contact irritation from the use of carpet treatments or deodorizers, inhalant allergy and boredom. You could try OTC hydrocortizone spray to cover contact or inhalant allergy but most likely you will need help from your vet to provide a long term plan. Boredom is a more challenging problem.
