Sneaking the other dogs food

December 5, 2013, 9:55 AM
Q: My puppy is 4 months old and has been eating the adult brand her puppy food. She gets into my boyfriend's dogs food and because of that she doesn't eat her puppy food anymore, what are the harms in this?
A: It is best for a puppy to eat puppy food until they are about 3/4 of their anticipated adult size. So in terms of months that would mean to around 5 months for a Chihuahua but around 12-14 months for a German Shepherd. If you puppy is a small breed occasional consumption of adult type food is not going to present any problems so far as growth and development.
