When to Start Grooming

Q: I have a 17 week old Maltipoo (Colton). Is he old enough to be fully groomed? Can I take him to a groomer to have his coat shaved down to where he looks like a dog and not a cute little rag a muffin.

A: If he has completed his series of vaccinations then it is okay to take him to places that serve groups of dogs eg. groomers, traineers and dog day care. Most groomers take a puppy through steps of grooming so some might object to an involved shave down on the first trip. The idea is to allow the puppy to "learn" how to be groomed.
