Pooping and Peeing on His Pad

September 8, 2013, 11:36 PM
Q: Our puppy seems to be coming along with peeing on the pee pee pad, however, he's not as good with going poop on the pad. When we leave him alone in the crate for 2-3 hours when we're not home, he sometimes goes poop in the crate. He's 10.5 weeks now. Does pooping in the right spot typically come later than peeing?
A: It seems that progress in potty trianing is more often achieved in the peeing category before the pooping category. Some of this is likely explained by there are more frequesnt urinations than defecations for most puppies. Control over either elimination is not achieved until around 12 weeks quickly improves after that age.
