Wake Up Routine

July 24, 2014, 9:50 AM
Q: Puppy slept in palace and eliminated overnite in there but did cry most of the night. When she came out of crate she immediately peed on floor. i put her back in crate and waited a bit, Let her out after 15 min or so and she pooped on the floor. Any ideas ?
A: This is a frequent problem for many owners. There are only two courses you can have her follow, she either has to stay in the palace until she eliminates or you should pick her up and get her to a designated elimination area either outdoors or a small area with a pad and tray. There is usually a brief period of activity (less than 10 minutes) after waking before elimination. Timing this and anticipating her response is part of "creating the opportunity for praise." If you watch the "potty training" series of videos this is a critical element in efficient training.
