Puppy Must Obey

Q: How can I get my puppy to obey me? I call him and he looks at me and when I try to go and pick him up he runs away from me. I believe he is trying to play because he starts to pounce around

A: You are allowing him to dictate. At least for your current example using a collar and leash to control his response is necessary. The basic idea is that any attempt at training requires that you have control, demonstrate what the expected response is so that you can create the opportunity for praise. You cannot allow your puppy to decide the result.
