Handling cage crying

March 29, 2015, 7:36 AM
Q: Our 10 week-old puppy whines, cries and barks loudly and incessantly when put in the crate. What can we do to calm him and make him stop? It is extremely upsetting to everyone in the house to see him freak out and cry and bark with such intensity. I don't mind sleeping with him, but I need for him to go in the crate periodically during the day because I work at home and need to get some work done.
A: First if all the puppy's crate needs to be in a separate area from the family. If he knows you are near it adds to the problem. There can only be one response, you have to ignore him. If you resort to putting him in bed with you it will prolong the problem. Click on the forum and type "whining " in the search box for a discussion.
